Engineering Manager

Job Description

Our client is building a premium creator platform and social network. They're rebuilding it from scratch in TypeScript on a minimal AWS serverless stack. The foundation, design system, and feed are already live. Payments is in progress, with many more domains still to build.

This is true greenfield work. The existing product is the spec, and the team decides how the new platform gets built.

Note: The platform is in the adult-content space, so you need to be comfortable working in this industry.

Remote B2B Contract · US Eastern time overlap · Team of 5–10 engineers

The role

You'll lead a squad while still writing and reviewing production code (about 60–70% leadership, 30–40% hands-on). You'll work closely with the Head of Engineering to turn the rebuild plan into shipped product.

You will:

  • Lead, coach, and grow 5–10 engineers
  • Own squad planning, priorities, and predictable delivery
  • Stay hands-on with code, reviews, and architecture
  • Own domains end-to-end, from data model to API to UI to deployment
  • Drive quality through testing, CI/CD, and observability
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership
  • Help recruit and onboard strong engineers

Tech stack

TypeScript · React · Vite · AWS CDK · Lambda · Step Functions · DynamoDB · Aurora DSQL · GitHub Actions

One language, one repo, no Kubernetes. You don't need to know everything listed, just be able to get productive quickly.

How the team works

  • API contracts (OpenAPI) come before code
  • Specs come before implementation
  • Automated checks enforce architecture and safety rules
  • Frontend and backend ship together in vertical slices
  • AI coding agents are part of the workflow

You'll need

  • 2+ years managing engineers while staying hands-on
  • Strong full-stack experience in a typed language
  • Production experience on managed cloud platforms
  • A track record of shipping and making pragmatic trade-offs
  • Strong testing discipline
  • Clear communication across teams
  • Comfort with the adult-content industry

Nice to have: AWS serverless, payments or ledger systems, contract-first APIs, greenfield rebuilds, and coaching mid-level engineers to senior.

What success looks like:

  • 90 days: productive in the codebase, trusted by the team, and your first domain slice shipped
  • 6 months: your squad ships predictably and engineers are growing
